Charmed
Rock doesn't get sweeter than this. Well, unless you head to Barry Island and sample Marco's ice cream delicacies, which incidently I did this week. Surrey's finest rock quintet, You Me At Six, hit up the Newport Centre and gave it a massive cwtch. The queue outside was so enormous many of us missed We The Kings. From the excitement of the three 15 year old girls infront of my in the phenominal queue wrapping its way around Newport Centre, I predict the first of the acts' set was a teen-pallette pleasing affair setting the sweaty Tweens, who had made it inside, up for the UK's new next big thing (didn't you get the memo? It's so not Ellie Goulding!)
Coming on stage with no more room than their support acts, pop-rockers We The Kings and Texan Cheddar-rocking genre-blurring Forever The Sickest Kids , YMAS blasted us with track after track after track. It definitely seemed a bit strange and there were times when I questioned if they'd forgotten their set or perhaps decided they weren't too cool to play on any more space than their warm-ups. After each of the first 4 songs everyone expected the black curtain to drop. After each song, we were left confused but rocking out no less.
Then, the sirens started. Red lights flashed. The curtain disappeared and the full stage set, including ramps, lights and satellites, were revealed. YMAS continued to rock in a way that only they can. As the gig went on it only became more apparent why frontman Josh Franceschi is such a hit with his female adorers. He, and his band, are endearing, completely relatable and , let's face it, not too difficult on the eye. Although slightly awkward at times, their on stage rock outs remind you the youthfulness of a British five piece who are as utterly charming as they are talented.
Oh yeah, and everyone's favourite Blackouter, Sean Smith, came out to play. And it was awesome.

Fireworks seemed an odd choice to end on, but en cores of Always Attract, Save It For The Bedroom and Hold Me Down's Underdog saw the boys go out with a bang. Franceschi left us with attitude exclaiming to his 2000 strong crowd, 'they can't hold me down'.

Relentless...The Blackout
In the almighty words of The Blackout's Sean Smith, who for the record hearts man boobs and manginas, "Kneel down or fuck off!".
Ballsy out-bursts, cracking on stage chemistry and anthemic rasping rock songs - I'm A Riot You're A Fucking Riot was a corker. These 3 things are all to be expected from Merthyr's best in town - albeit the girl next to me playing her PSP would disagree. What a chump! Banter around illegal downloads, crowd surfing parents, "girls zombies boys get ya guns out" and "I'm not lying. I'm not making this shit up. That is the best that has ever been sung" are all part of the charming repertoire from South Wales' next big thing.

Snowgate
OK, so it is still pissing down with snow, my cassette-wielding car is still stranded at the stables and somehow I have still made it to work. Everyday. Early. What's that about? But whilst on the train this evening, inbetween paragraphs of HST's Generation Of Swine, I got to thinking about what I am looking forward to.
Number 1) Kicking off my birthweek with Young Guns, All Time Low , The Blackout and My Passion on The Kerrang! Relentless Energy Tour hitting Cardiff on January 29th to . I literally tingle with excitement. Info here and beyond: tour.kerrang.com
Number 2) The vast number of immense gigs and albums gracing our shores over the forthcoming months; 30STM (Actor-cum-rockband not to everyone's taste, but I find them inoffensive...sorry Ian Watkins!), You Me At Six, Reel Big Fish, The Temper Trap, Fightstar, Dead By Sunrise...KISS!
Number 3) I love A Sides! And B Sides! The possibility of a cassette revival leaves me salivating a little bit (is that wrong? Oh well, if La Roux's hair doesn't have to be right then neither do I!). Is anyone else stoked to make a proper stop-record-pause-rewind-stop-record-stop-playback mixtape!? The Tapeworm are a cassette only label helping keep the magnetic-recording dream alive. Number 4) A Mark Hoppus-Pete Wentz hair-off! Sadly, this is made up but how great would that be? Well, until PeWe lost his emo-fringe to the mercy of Mark's clippers. In reality, the punk pair teamed up to create a tune for Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland. PeWe hasn't ruled out further work with the Blink-bassist assuring us 'it sounds nothing like Blink 182 or Fall Out Boy' (from Yahoo news UK). No hint of sarcasm, my breath is actually baited.
Number 5) Praise be for Christmas anarchy! As if splattering Joe McElderry's sad cover of Miley Cyrus's The Climb all over his Christmas pudding wasn't enough, Rage Against The Machine promise of a victory gig. This year. In the UK. For free! Should be. According to this week's Kerrang! magazine Mr Morello and his angry mob 'couldn't be more excited about it' and say the free show will be 'insane'. On top of all this the US politcal-rockers donated all the GBP800,000 (yeah, my pound sign doesn't work. Brilliant) profits from their Christmas Number 1 to UK charity, Shelter. RATM - we salute you.
